Elsie Hansen Finds Her Stride

Elsie Hansen (FR) is one of several newcomers to cross country competition on our girls' team. A natural runner, Hansen really started to improve towards the back half of the season. Once she started to figure out how to negotiate the race distance, her times dropped significantly.

After finishing 6th overall at our Home Meet on 10/12/22, just one spot behind teammate Andrea Burns, Hansen entered the peak training phase with her 3 fastest race finishes of the season. At the Thatcher XC Invitational in 10/20/22, Hansen finished ahead of Burns to become our Girls' Varsity Team's #2 runner.

The highlight of the season was Hansen's performance at the Eye of the Tiger Invitational at Marana HS on 10/22/22. Her 25:00 finish would prove to be the fastest 5K finishing time recorded for our girls' team during Coach Lewis's tenure as Head Coach.

Although Devyn Montiel (SR) finished ahead of Hansen at Sectionals on 11/2/22, her 25:32 finish was the 3rd fastest Sectionals finishing time recorded for our girls' team during Coach Lewis's tenure as Head Coach. Hansen's finish in Manana, along with her finish at Sectionals, means she holds the fastest 5K finishing time recorded for our girls' team during Coach Lewis's tenure as Head Coach, as well as the 4th fastest time during the Coach Lewis era.

With Montiel graduating this year, Hansen is looking to lead the way in the seasons to come.
