FHS XC Struggles to Find Footing

With one of our top female and one of our top male runners sidelined due to injuries right at the start of the season, FHS XC took a few weeks to get our feet under us. For the girls, academic eligibility and athletic department clearance proved to be our biggest enemies. For the boys, disciplinary issues kept 3 of our top runners out of our meet at Globe HS.

Arial Acosta, Devyn Montiel, and Rosa Contreras, our returning ladies from last season, were our only ladies to compete in our first 3 meets. Devyn Montiel started to make progress after missing our first meet due to a foot injury. Montiel was able to drop 4 minutes off her 5K finish between our meet at Globe HS on 9/3/21 (34:02) and our meet at Nogales HS on 9/8/21 (30:02). Contreras completed her first 5K race at Nogales HS (47:16).

Devon Lindenstein and Landen Singleton, each in their first seasons of cross country competition, made their marks early on. In our first meet of the season at San Tan Foothills HS, Lindenstein finished 7th overall (22:33), and Singleton finished 5th overall at our next meet at Globe HS (22:06).

Tyler Krizan, one of our returners from last season, started out slow but was able to drop nearly 6 minutes off his finishing time between our 1st and 2nd races of the season. Krizan's time at our meet at Globe HS was just 10 seconds off from his PR (24:10).

Returning runner Caden Moseley and newcomer Kutuba Zimba were able to drop significant amount time from their finishes between our 1st and 2nd races. Moseley set a new PR at Globe HS (24:24), and Zimba set his PR at Globe (23:10).
