Although FHS XC did not see a 5K race distance until the last half of our competition schedule, the shorter races courses allowed our runners to pick up the pace.
Running under the lights at Desert Twilight was our first chance to see how our runners handled a true 5K race distance. Several of our newcomers set their initial PR marks at Twilight, while others ran their best races of the season. Among the highlights, Aiden Lee set his new PR with his 20:28.4 finish, and Elsie Hansen set her PR with her 28:22.2 finish.
Lee went on to beat that mark with his 19:56 finish at the Eye of the Tiger Invitational on 10/22/22 and recorded his 3rd fastest finishing time at Sectionals (20:46).
Hansen went on shave over 3 minutes off her time at Twilight. At Eye of the Tiger, her 25:00 set her new PR and at Sectionals she finished in 25:32.
Devyn Montiel (Sr) saved her best performances for her final two races of her FHS XC career. At the Thatcher XC Invitational on 10/20/22, Montiel set a new PR with her 27:22 finish, only to drop more than two minutes off that mark at Sectionals (25:07).
Sectionals at Crossroads Park proved to be a PR course. Along with Montiel, Zora Fedor (25:53), Hanna Garcia (31:56), Kylee Clayton (37:15), Devon Lindenstein (20:03), Tyler Krizan (22:10), and Kutuba Zimba (20:54) all set PRs on 11/2/22.
