Andrea Burns (SO) and Sean Prendergast (JR), who has already branched out into new events, discovered new ways to contribute to the team.
Burns has been a constant as a distance runner for FHS T&F, but when Coach Lewis was looking for new javelin throwers she jumped at the opportunity. It wasn't until the meet hosted by San Tan Foothills HS on 4/6/22 that Burns tried her hand at the javelin. Her 29'-0" mark earned a 4th place finish. With further instruction and practice, Burns improved her distance by nearly 30 feet! A week later at the meet hosted by Poston Butte HS, Burns finished 6th overall with her 57'0" thrown. A week after that at our Home Meet, Burns finished 3rd overall with her 56' 6" throw.
Sean Prendergast, who found success early in the 400m and Long Jump, wanted to try his hand at the triple jump. At the meet hosted by ALA-Ironwood on 3/30/22, Prendergast asked if he could try the triple jump. His 33' 9" jump was a great start into his new event. At the meet hosted by Poston Butte HS, Prendergast finished 4th Overall (35' 0.5"), and at the East Valley Qualifier on 4/29/22, he set his PR with his 35' 8.5" jump, which was good enough for 10th Place.
Burns and Prendergast, both in their second seasons of track & field, set new PR's in their primary events this season and found success in their new events. Burns ended the season as our top female javelin thrower, and Prendergast ended the season as our top male long jumper and triple jumper.
