FHS T&F Sets Sights on Div. IV Championships

Throughout the season, FHS T&F put together several outstanding individual performances. Senior Wrangler Guilliams continued his dominance in the shot put and discus throws. Junior Josh Jackson was a consistent bright spot in the 100m and 200m sprints. Although she was a new addition to the team this season, Junior E.C. Turk-Francis was no newcomer to track & field. Turk-Francis and Zora Fedor (Fr) put together top performances in the horizontal jumps all season long.

Guilliams earned podium finishes at 3 of the invitationals we attended this season in both the shot put and discus, and his 47-9 throw at the Sabercat Co-Ed Relays secured his spot to compete in the shot put at the Division IV Championships. His 134-8 throw in the discus at the Pinal County Championships secured his spot to compete in the discus as well. Both were PR setting performances.

Josh Jackson has been a focal point of our sprint group in each of his 3 seasons of competition. This season, he put together a string of solid performances in the 100m and earned his spot to compete in Division IV Championships. Towards the end of the season, his 11.54 at the Pinal County Championships and his 11.55 at the East Valley Qualifier were his top two 100m times he'd recorded yet.

E.C. Turk-Francis (Jr) took a little time to get going with FHS T&F this season. Turk-Francis is a member of the FHS Varsity Girls' Basketball Team, and while we were starting preparation for the competition season, she was in the middle of playoff-run on the basketball court. Once she did join us out on the track, she became an immediate impact as one of our top 100m and 200m sprinters and was a member of our 4 x 100m relay team. Although she proved to be a tremendous asset to the sprint group, her primary event was the triple jump. Having several top finishes at several of our meets throughout the season, her 31-1.75 jump at the Pinal County Championships qualified her to compete at the Division IV Championships.

Zora Fedor (Fr) was a newcomer to track & field, but it didn't take long for her to make an impact. Fedor, like Turk-Francis, was one of our top sprinters from the start of the season. Fedor ventured into the long jump and found success right away, finishing 1st overall in her first competition in this event. She had several solid performances in the 100m, 200, and 4 x 100m relay all season, but she consistently had top performances in the long jump throughout the season. Her 15-3 at the Sabercat Co-Ed Relays not only set her PR, but it secured her spot to compete in the Division IV Championships.

Sean Prendergast (Sr) led the way in the 400m and the horizonal jumps for our boys' team these last two seasons. Although he had several standout performances in the long jump and triple jump this season, he did not qualify to complete in the Division IV Championships in those events. However, he did punch his ticket to the Division IV Championships as a member of the boys' 4 x 400m relay team. Alongside teammates Cristian Valencia (So), Josh Jackson (Jr), and Aiden Lee (So), their 3:38.97 finish at the Pinal County Championships earned them a spot to compete at the Division IV Championships.
