Johnson Sprints Into the Record Books

Kendra Johnson made her final season of track & field at FHS one for the record books. Johnson's 12.79 finish in the 100m Prelims on Day 1 of the 2022 AIA Div. III Track & Field State Championships on 5/10/22 not only earned her a spot in the Finals on Day 2, it set her new PR, and it put her in a tie for the FHS T&F school record with 2011 stand-out sprinter J'Nae Fraser.

A few hours after her performance in the 100m Prelims, Johnson punched her ticket for the 200m Finals on Day 2 with her 26.72 finish, beating her own school record in the process. At the East Valley Qualifier on 4/29/22, our final competition of the season, Johnson set her new PR in the 200m Prelims and tied Fraser's 2011 school record time of 27.43. Later that day in the 200m Finals, Johnson set the new FHS T&F Girls 200m Record with her 27.26 time and a 4th Place finish and a new PR.

Heading into Day 2 of State on 5/14/22, Johnson held the school record in the 200m and was tied for the school record in the 100m. It was on this day that Johnson solidified her place in the FHS record books. In the 100m Finals, Johnson's 12.69 finish put her in 5th Place and set the new FHS T&F Girls 100m Record. Just as she did on Day 1, Johnson competed in the 200m Finals under the stadium lights. She finished 7th Overall, once again set her new PR, and beat her own time to, once again, set the new FHS T&F Girls 200m Record with her 26.41 mark.

Johnson was consistent all season long, and was a Top-3 finisher in both the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump throughout the season. Her peak performances at the end of the season are a tribute to all her hard work and preparation leading up to the biggest competitions of the season. Her stellar performances while in the spotlight at State Championships would prove to be the perfect reward for all her efforts.

Congratulations to Kendra Johnson on an amazing Senior Year of competition, and best of luck to her as she looks ahead towards graduation and to the prospects of collegiate athletics.
